To make your computer functioning and management simpler there are a lot of services that run in Windows XP using up disk space. These services are good for users with large hard disks however for those who need to keep each and every bit of their hard disk free, here are a few tweaks that can be done to your windows in order to clean up the disk space about 10%.
Decrease the disk usage of the Recycle Bin
You can decrease the disk usage of recycle bin, doing this can free up upto 5% of your disk space. To do it follow these simple instructions.
Right click on the Recycle bin and click on its Properties

And now in the Global Tab, move the slider to the left and make maximum size of Recycle Bin at 1% or 2%. By default the Recycle Bin uses 10% of your disk space. Click on Apply and click on OK
Decrease the disk usage of System Restore
System Restore is a prominent feature in Windows XP that helps you recover from any problems by restoring your computer to a previous state. However the disk cost of using this feature is too heavy. With simple tweaks, you can run System Restore effectively without throwing up much of your disk space. By default the system restore feature is enabled on all the fixed drives to you computer. However it is unlikely for problems to cause from other drives except for the drive in which the windows is installed. So the logic is we will turn off System Restore feature in all other drives except for the primary. To do this
Click on the Start button, right click on the My Computer and click on its Properties

Now in the new window that appears click on the System Restore Tab
Now the important part of the game, forget about the C: drive for a while click on the D: drive from the list and click on the Settings button
Another pop up appears, check the Turn off System Restore on this drive and click on OK
A warning message box appears stating that you are trying to turn off system restore on this drive, click on Yes
Follow the same steps for all other drives in the list except for the C: drive
Now coming to C:drive, after clicking the Settings button, instead of checking the turn off System Restore move the slider below to the left and make it 4% of the disk space. This is done in order to avoid System Restore from stopping completely. 4% of the total drive space is enough to manage your windows files so that you can restore them to previous state in case of any malfunctioning.
