Hibernate is a feature in Windows XP that basically saves your memory’s current state as it is to the hard drive and shuts down your computer so that when you start it next time you get it back in the same restored state where you left it. How cool is that. To enable hibernation feature in Windows XP you need to ahve free hard disk space in your C Drive almost equal to your Memory size. To learn how to check your installed memory please see this our tutorial how to determine a computer’s configuration
So lets see how do we enable hibernation feature..
Click on Start then click Run
Now type powercfg.cpl and press Enter
Now in the new windows that appears, click on the Hibernate Tab… Then Check the Enable hibernation and Click OK
There it shows the free disk space and disk required to hibernate. My installed memory is 768 MB hence I need 768 MB of free disk space to enable hibernation feature on my computer.
OK now Hibernation Option is Enabled, now how do we use it ? Where can we see it ?
Click on start then click on Turn Off Computer
Now you can see the 3 buttons Stand By, Turn Off and Restart. Now in this scenario if you press the Shift Key the Stand By button will change into hibernate. Check the image below
Yeah ! Intelligent huh ! Yes you need to hold the shift key and click on Hibernate to hibernate your PC. The Windows will save your memory state and turn off. Once you power back on your computer you get it in the same state you left it..
So how was the tutorial ?
