These shortcuts a few keyboard shortcuts for Windows XP many people might not know. No these are not the Copy, Cut, Paste etc. If not some, you don’t know at least one of these 10 shortcuts. Please don’t blabber or downgrade us if you know all of them because these are generally for newbies. We hope if not all then some of these may come handy daily. A must have look for all.

To Minimize all windows

Window key + D


To switch through windows

Alt + Tab

To know the Properties of a file

Click on a Folder or File and then Press Alt + Enter

To delete the file completely from your hard disk instead of dripping into Recycle Bin

Click on the File or Folder and press Shift + Delete

To take a screenshot of your desktop/current screen (the screenshot is saved in your clipboard)

Print Screen SysRq [located beside Scroll Lock Key]

To take a screen shot of the active window only (the screenshot is saved in your clipboard)

Alt + Print Screen SysRq

To open Properties of My Computer

Window key + Pause Break

To make a copy of file

Click on the File or Folder, Hold Ctrl and drag the Folder or file to any location where you want to copy

To open your start menu

Ctrl + Esc

To refresh your screen or page (Browser or Desktop)

Press function key F5

    Most of those are extremely common. the start menu is kinda pointless though since most people have keyboards with the “start” or “windows” key which does the same thing in one keystroke.

    Another one is, if you have a folder open with thumbnails showing, and the folder names underneath, to get rid of the folder names, change the view to “details” or something other than “Thumbnails” and then hold the Shift key down and then switch back to “Thumbnail” view and the folder names will be gone. To get them back, repeat the above steps.

    I knew most…but why bother with ^ESC when you can simply press the Window key to bring up the start menu?

    I just knew few of those. These shortcuts are really very helpful. Also I know these

    SHIFT+F10 – It opens a shortcut menu for the selected item
    CTRL+ESC – It opens the Start menu
